Solar Rebates for City Residents |

If you are a resident of the City of Fort Collins, you may have wondered why you weren't able to access any state or local rebates for installing a Solar PV system, while customers outside the City got hefty rebates from Xcel Energy.
Well, through a program that began this year at the City of Fort Collins, which is co-funded by the Governor's Energy Office, Fort Collins residents are now eligible for rebates as well. The program is set to continue at least through 2011.
The program is administered by the City of Fort Collins Utilities. In 2009 it awarded 9 rebates to local residents. The details for the 2010 program are still being finalized, but it looks as though residents will qualify for $3 per watt of installed solar PV, up to a maximum of $9000 (or 3 Kilowatts) and up to $3000 for Solar Thermal.
Residents will likely need to apply by the end of January, 2010 in order to qualify for this coming year's rebate. If applications exceed the amount of available money, the City will likely have a lottery to award the funds.
In order to make sure that you don’t miss out on this opportunity, you can send an email to Norm Weaver at the City utility (nweaver@fcgov.com) asking to be placed on the mailing list for information on the City's 2010 solar rebate program. Norm will make sure that you are updated with information as soon as it becomes available.
In the meantime, if you are considering Solar PV or Solar Thermal, it would be a good idea to talk with a Solar installer in order to assess whether your home is suitable and to get a quote (or 2) for the job.
And if you are considering Solar, don't forget that there is also a Federal rebate of 30% available now!
